Love with Food October Box Review

This is my 3rd Love with Food box (I purchased a 3 month subscription on Rue la la) and I really have grown to enjoy this subscrption more and more every month! The items are usually something I've never seen or heard of before so It's fun having a little tasting party when my box arrives!

This months theme was Scary Delicious!

Chocolate Pizzelle Crisps - Silk City Snacks
I was expecting a lot from these. The amount in the bag for 100 calories was fantastic! However the taste...not so much. They were chocolate flavored (I didn't taste any chocolate really) very bland! They have potential though.

Toasted Coconut Chips - Dang
These are awesome

Fruit & Nut Delight Kind Bar - Kind Snacks
I've tried these before and definitely love them! They have so many flavors so there is something for everyone.

Pixo Pearls - Vinaigrette Gingras
I think these were supposed to come as "pearls" but mine were completely liquified!! I would have loved to try these out on a pork chop or pork loin, could of had great potential. Probably will just toss with some lettuce!

New World Caveman Cookies - Caveman Bakery
I never consider these organic, raw gluten free cookies as "cookies" - I mean they are usually good but I would say its more of a soft bar. These taste pretty much like all of the other ones but with more of a spicyness (think spiced wafers or fall spices).

Organic Hard Candies - Torie & Howard

Triple Berry Glee Gum - Verve Inc
I've seen this at Whole Foods but never purchased it. When I do chew gum it's usually sugar free anyways.

Happy Squeeze - Happy Family

Honesty Good - Lean Cuisine
Coupon for a free entree
Haven't tried these out yet but I'm a Lean Cuisine fan and I've only heard good things so I'm sure they will be delicious.

Every month, Love With Food members will receive a curated box of unique, hard-to-find tasty snacks which varies based on seasonal themes. Subscription membership starts as low as $10/month. Birchbox Women's October Box Review

 Women’s Birchbox - October 2013 - Beauty Buzz

This month’s Birchbox was devoted to award winners, celeb favorites, up-and-comers—and all the other products we can’t stop talking about. I was seriously impressed with this month’s box! Actually the past few months have been really great and I’ve found a few items I am in love with and don’t know how I lived without them.

Alison Raffaele Reality Base Foundation Full Size $38
Many thick, goopy foundations make us feel about as unnatural-looking as the Joker. Not so funny. We prefer a makeup look that’s a little more inconspicuous, so naturally, we gravitated toward Alison Raffaele’s Reality Base Foundation. Its weightless, oil-free formula is designed to look completely natural on skin, providing medium coverage and leaving your face silky-smooth. The foundation contains the protective and restorative Frutta di VitaTM antioxidant complex, a brand signature ingredient.

POP Beauty Aqua Lacquer Full Size $14
Sticky lip gloss is high up on our list of beauty pet peeves, right next to cakey concealer and smudgy mascara. One gust of wind, and your hair is stuck all over your lips. No thanks, we’ll pass. We’ve become pretty picky about lip products, and these superlight, refreshing glosses make the cut. Created by the color pros at POP Beauty, they add a wash of sheer color and a high dose of shine, without that goopy, sticky feeling we all know too well.

This was a full size sample – SCORE! I received the Flowering Fuschia shade which is perfect for me. I love the not really a brush brush (it’s more of a stick with a flat end) and it’s not grossly sticky. I am a lip gloss whore, who can’t ever have enough, but this went right into my purse the day I got it!

Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine Cologne Absolue Full Size $155
Citrus scents have always been a bit of a beauty conundrum: they’re impossibly fresh, but they also have a habit of going missing after a few hours. Until now, that is. Atelier Cologne’s Orange Sanguine Cologne Absolue is a highly concentrated — 15 percent to be exact — and distinctive blend that lasts much longer than traditional citrus scents. It has a burst of sweet blood orange and bitter orange laced with heady jasmine and rich sandalwood — you won’t be able to stop sniffing your wrist.

I loved the packaging for this little perfume sample – a wax paper bag with a lovely postcard. I mean how many times is it always one of those little paper folders with it just stuck inside? I was a bit thrown off when I first smelled this – not in a bad way but more of a “whoa that’s strong, not sure how I feel about this”. After a few minutes I really couldn’t stop sniffing myself!

DDF Wrinkle Resist Plus Pore Minimizer Moisturizing Serum Full Size $85
This genre-bending serum uses a patented dual-phase technology to give skin double the benefits. Like a topnotch primer, it instantly hydrates skin, shrinks pores, and masks flaws. At the same time, the peptide-packed formula exfoliates and repairs skin cells for lasting anti-aging benefits. Plus, the double helix style tube is pretty nifty.

I haven’t used this yet because I’ve been having some skin issues and wanted to wait until it cleared up but I can’t wait to test it out. I am loving all the serums that are out these days – they really are a great way to moisturize without the heavy feeling.

ChapStick Hydration Lock
We’ve been known to squirrel away a ChapStick® or two in every conceivable hiding place, so we’re never caught without. But there are times when we can’t easily reapply. (While skiing, for example, it’s much more important that our hands hold the poles.) That’s why we’re in love with this new innovation from ChapStick®. Clinically proven to hydrate lips, the eight-hour balm also comes packed with antioxidant CoQ10 and healing vitamin E. With just one swipe, our pout can withstand an entire day on the slopes (or at a desk, dreaming of said adventures).

This was a Birchbox Find which is a product Birchbox thinks is exciting, time-saving, awesome, routine-improving, or all of the above. These always come in addition to your samples – they don’t replace any! So really…who doesn’t love ChapStick? Enough said. They also threw in a $1.00 off coupon to use at any store.

Beauty Box by Target Review

Beauty Box by Target - First Edition

What is it!?! A monthly program that will send you samples of 4-5 products from Target’s favorite brands. Also included will be a special offer that’ll have you looking gorgeous for less.

Gillette Venus and Olay Razor Pack
Help lock-in moisture and keep legs smooth with Venus & Olay’s new Sugarberry razor. I am currently using this as my main razor. It's well...a razor with some extra gelly/moisturizer strips on the top and bottom. It's a good product but I wouldn't pay extra just for the Olay factor.

L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier B.B. Cream
Meet the magic all-in-one B.B. Cream. It hydrates, primes, perfects and corrects for a look and feel fit for the runway. I already use this - EVERY day! I love it!

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo
While previously only available through a dermatologist, La Roche-Posay is now available at Target. Effaclar Duo is a breakthrough in acne treatment clinically tested to bring high efficacy with high tolerance. I haven't used this yet but I know La Roche Posay for their sunscreen products which are top notch so this should be in the same league.

Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips
These strips will allow you to easily add pizzazz to your manicure with multiple print and pattern options. I just tried nail strips for the first time last week (check out my Incoco review) and I am definitely a fan of them. I haven't tried these particular ones yet but I'm sure they will be awesome! I'm especially happy I got the black with gold and silver glitter polish!

Fekkai Glossing Cream
Add a dazzling touch to your hair with Fekkai Glossing Cream that adds brilliant shine and helps eliminate frizz. I've used this in the past and Fekkai does wonders with their products - this is a deluxe sample too which is major bonus points.

Target Coupon
$3 off a beauty purchase of $15 or more in store or online. I used this to buy Yes to Blueberries Eye Firming Treatment If you haven't had a chance to try any of the Yes to... line you should! this was my first foray into it and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

No word on when the next box will be available but for $5 how could you go wrong? I will definitely post as soon as I hear about it being offered again.

Incoco Design Nail Polish Appliques Review

First of all let me say I know I have been NON EXISTENT on my blog lately. I have been beyond busy and haven't had much down time. Sorry about that but I promise to be posting a lot within the next few days to catch up!

I received these Incoco Nail Polish Appliques in my March Birchbox and finally got around to using them last weekend. I haven't used any type of nail applique so I was clueless when it came to going about this. I actually resorted to the Incoco website for some tips and a video tutorial as the actual directions on the package were a bit vague. Birchbox also has a video on how to apply them. These strips are 100% nail polish which to me is amazing how this even works but it does. The design I got was Freshly Picked which is a white base color accented with adorable pink flowers.

So here are some tips/tricks that I figured out while doing these for the first time:
  • make sure your cuticles are really pushed back! I had a few nails that the strip overlapped in some spots
  • size up which strips you are going to use for which nails first - I had to go back and forth a few times between sizes to get the perfect fit
  • wipe your nails with a small amount of nail polish remover before putting the strips on
  • take your time! you cannot rush this or else you are going to have them come out crooked. you can pull the strip off and reposition it if you aren't happy with the placement. just don't rub the strip on your nail or you will tear it trying to take it off
  • Be careful when filing because you can tear them - I just pulled the excess off pretty close to the nail and folded the rest under the nail and just ran my finger on the edge a few times til it basically tore off
So here is my final ta-da:

My nails are a bit grown out now (I applied the strips last Friday) but I was very pleased with how they turned out and how long they are lasting. I have had them on for a week now and no chips or wear!

These are available for $10 in the Birchbox shop. They also have solid colors and a designer collection available.

Also a neat little tidbit: according to Birchbox these little nail strips are actually better for your nails than regular polish because they contain less solvent and have small pores to let your nails breathe.
